Create a Project

Start your first book and understand the project layout on disk.

Start a New Book

Give your book a title and choose its page geometry.

From the welcome screen choose Start a new book. Enter the title and author, then pick the trim size, orientation, and margins. Panulat remembers this layout for the whole book.

  • -Enter the book title and author.
  • -Choose trim size, orientation, and margins.
  • -Panulat creates the project and opens the first page.
The Sample Project

Explore the sample book to learn the workspace.

The welcome screen also offers the sample project, a complete example book with front matter, chapters, pages, and a board. It is the fastest way to see the Manuscript dock, editors, and Build Book in action.

What a Project Looks Like

Every project is a folder of plain files.

A Panulat project is a folder on your disk. The manuscript lives under manuscript/ with front-matter, contents, and back-matter; boards live under boards/; versions under versions/; and the project file is a .plx file.

  • -book.plx is the project file with titles, settings, and ordering.
  • -manuscript/ holds front matter, chapter folders, and pages (.plp).
  • -boards/ holds board indexes (.plb) and card pages (.plr).
  • -versions/ holds published snapshots (.ple).
  • -meta/assets.db is the per-project asset index.
