Ask, Plan, and Write

Switch modes without losing context.

PenPal shows one conversation with three filtered views. Ask answers questions about your book using read-only access to the project. Plan drafts structured outlines you can save as plan files. Write sends the agent to make changes to your files.

• -Ask can read files in the project and answer from what it finds.
• -Plan produces Markdown plans that open in the Plan Editor.
• -Write proposes edits as cards you can Apply or Skip.

PenPal never deletes without asking.

In Write mode, new files and edits apply automatically or as proposals depending on the Auto-apply setting. Deletes always open a blocking confirmation dialog, and structure files like the project file, board indexes, and asset databases are always refused.

• -Auto-apply on: constructive writes apply without a prompt.
• -Auto-apply off: every edit arrives as an Apply/Skip proposal.
• -Deletes always confirm; protected files are always refused.

Everything is saved in your project.

Saved plans and chat sessions persist in the project's .penpal folder. The History dock lists past chats, and the Plan Editor lets you click any block to edit its Markdown directly.
