Model Levels
Choose how PenPal thinks.
PenPal has three model levels. PenPal Mini - Model 1 is free and runs on your computer; Swift and Deep are cloud models that need a DeepSeek API key entered in PenPal settings.
- -PenPal Mini - Model 1: free, on-device, works offline, Ask and Plan only.
- -Swift: fast cloud drafting and answers.
- -Deep: the most thorough cloud model for outlining and reworking.
Setup
PenPal Mini - Model 1 needs a model download; Swift and Deep need a key.
Pick PenPal Mini - Model 1 in the model dropdown and use Download Model in the settings section the first time. For Swift or Deep, open PenPal settings from the dock header and paste your DeepSeek API key; it is stored in your operating system's credential store.
